Caitlin Schwerin is a California native. She grew up in Larkspur, attended college at Chico State, took a 7 year hiatus to work and save money, and returned to Chico in 2001 to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art; Painting. She currently resides there, quite happily. The time spent away from school was productive artistically, allowing her to draw from a personal place without others’ directives. It was a time of channeling out the emotive paintings, and becoming a more positive artist; a more positive person, and most importantly, a more confident painter.

Her style is decorative for the most part, simple landscapes both fictitious and factual, with a sculpting quality and a touch of whimsy. However, like her moods, her subject matter changes. Most of her “life moments” are captured in text, in a story that accompanies a painting, or in some other transparent way that allows it to be told without telling it. “It is a cheap visit to the shrink….with no time limit.”

The high gloss started in 2002, in an attempt to create a series of the Truffula Trees as “photos” taken by someone who had entered that dreamy Dr. Seuss world. It stuck. Caitlin is now a full-time artist, painting up to 12 hours a day, and loving every minute of it.
